Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias

I love the architecture of Santiago Calatrava for his highly modern and organic forms. He is the the architect of many iconic structures littered throughout Europe, America and Canada. His concepts derive from his architectural, structural engineering, painting and sculptural talents.

This particular example is designed by Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela and I have had the fortune of admiring it first hand during my travels. It is named The City of Arts and Sciences and is an entertainment-based cultural and architectural complex that defines the city of Valencia, Spain.

The area consists of the following buildings:
L'Hemisfèric — an Imax Cinema, Planetarium and Laserium. Built in the shape of the eye.
L'Oceanogràfic — an open-air oceanographic, the largest oceanographic aquarium in Europe.
El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía — an opera house and performing arts center.
L'Àgora — a covered plaza which holds concerts and sporting events.
El Puente de l'Assut de l'Or — a bridge that connects the south side with Minorca Street.
El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe — resembling the skeleton of a whale, it is an interactive museum of science.
L'Umbracle — a landscaped walk with plant species indigenous to Valencia.
